Types of Intellectual Property

Trademark - any word, letter, name, slogan, symbol, design, logo, shape, image, sound, color or combination thereof that is used or intended to be used in commerce.

 

Copyright – a property right granted to the creator of an original creative work fixed in a tangible medium of expression.

 

Patent - a property right granted to the inventor of a new, useful and nonobvious process, machine, manufacture, composition of matter or improvement thereof.

 

Trade Secret – a proprietary information that a) derives economical value from not being generally known or readily ascertainable, and b) be the subject of its owner’s reasonable efforts to keep it confidential
